Phonetics deals with the production of speech sounds by humans, often without prior knowledge of the language being spoken. The study of the production and perception of speech sounds is a branch of linguistics called phonetics, studied by phoneticians. The study of how languages treat these sounds is called phonology. Linguistics and phonetics presents a new stance on the presentation of basic phonetic skills for students of linguistics, using examples drawn from a wide-range of languages.
